NBA 2K27 GOAT Build Rules
GOAT Builds are preset MyPLAYER recreations of NBA stars that can go past the normal MyPLAYER Builder caps. Once you've unlocked one, this page covers what you can customize: signature animations are locked to each player, while Badges, Cap Breakers and Takeovers stay customizable.

Caps: past the normal builder
GOAT Builds break the standard attribute and physical caps of the MyPLAYER Builder.
2K's go-to example is the Magic Johnson GOAT Build, a point guard taller than the 6'7" Create Your Own PG limit. Until per-player caps are out, use the position ranges on the height and weight page.
Badges
You still pick your own Badges.
- Badge tiers depend on attributes, and 2K hasn't shown attributes for any GOAT Build yet.
- The Season 2 rewards track also hands out Synergy Badge Slots, Bonus Badge Slots and Bonus Badge Tokens for your MyPLAYER builds in general.
Cap Breakers on GOAT Builds
Yes, you can use Cap Breakers on GOAT Builds.
Players are already asking about cap breaking builds like Kawhi Leonard and Wilt Chamberlain.
What we know
- A Cap Breaker pushes an attribute past its cap. One attribute takes at most 5, and you can't undo it, according to 2K Support.
- Height, weight and wingspan can limit how high an attribute goes.
- The Season 2 rewards track gives you one Cap Breaker, at Level 40 (Courtside Report).
- You can also earn them from The City rewards ladder, Build Specialization (those go in your specialized category or Free Throw) and Crews (one time).
What 2K hasn't said yet
- Whether a Cap Breaker can push a GOAT attribute past 99
- How much one Cap Breaker adds on a GOAT Build, and whether the 5-per-attribute limit still applies
- Whether Cap Breakers you've already earned carry over to a new GOAT Build
Takeovers
You can customize Takeovers.
2K hasn't shown the default Takeovers for each GOAT Build yet.
Signature animations
Signature animations are locked so each legend plays like himself.
The big question, especially for shooters like Klay Thompson: can you still swap your jumper, dribble moves or animation breakers? 2K hasn't said. If your jumper is non-negotiable, a custom build keeps it.
Are GOAT Build stats locked?
Most likely yes: plan around fixed attributes and tune Badges, Cap Breakers and Takeovers on top.
You most likely can't move attribute points around, since the build is a preset recreation. 2K's two Season 2 posts word this a little differently.
Archetype names
Every GOAT Build gets its own archetype name based on the player.
2K hasn't revealed any of them yet. See archetype in the glossary.
GOAT Build vs a custom build
A custom build gives you control; a GOAT Build gives you the legend's body past the caps.
| Custom build | GOAT Build | |
|---|---|---|
| Body and attributes | You pick height, weight, wingspan and attributes, all inside the builder caps | Come from the legend and can go past those caps |
| Badges, Cap Breakers, Takeovers | Yours to set | Still yours to set |
Need a specific player? The unlock guide covers all 18, from day-one picks like Anthony Davis to grinds like Anthony Edwards.
